Our Organization
Hometown Department is a documentary-driven media platform dedicated to telling the real stories of fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies across America. Through short films and interviews, we showcase the people behind the badge—their commitment, challenges, and the unique communities they serve. Our goal is to provide the public with an authentic look at the realities of emergency service and the essential role first responders play in protecting and supporting their communities.
We created Hometown Department to honor those who serve and to advocate for the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. By highlighting issues such as staffing shortages, funding needs, aging equipment, and mental health support, we hope to build greater public understanding and inspire meaningful support at both the community and policy levels. When first responders are properly staffed, equipped, and supported, they are better able to protect the people and communities that depend on them every day.

We serve fire and EMS agencies of every size and staffing model—from major metropolitan departments to small-town volunteer organizations. While each department is unique, they all share a common mission: protecting and supporting the communities they serve, often with limited resources and growing demands.
No matter where they are located or how they are staffed, departments across the country face many of the same challenges, including staffing shortages, budget constraints, aging equipment, and increasing call volumes. Hometown Department exists to give these agencies a platform to share their stories, highlight their needs, and build the public support they need to continue serving their communities safely and effectively.
